Get a taste of April in Paris at Swan Theatre

Worcester Editorial 4th Mar, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

CITY residents have been invited to spend April in Paris with the latest production by the St John’s Players.

Bet and Al have never been to Paris. In fact they have never been anywhere.

They spend their mundane lives at home, bored and constantly bickering.

Bet relieves the monotony by entering competitions in magazines: once she even won some golf balls – a pity neither of them play!

And then, success – a weekend in Paris! But will they dare to go? Al needs a lot of persuading but finally they board the ferry and are on their way.

Join Bet and Al on their adventure, getting to grips with sea sickness, map reading, the Metro, not to mention restaurant menus in French!

Follow them to the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Louvre and even a nightclub in the racy area of Paris. Life will never be the same again.

April in Paris by John Godber, of Hull Truck fame, is a play for two people who act out the events of the weekend on a bare stage with the help of only a very few props.

In fact, it’s an ideal choice for a studio production which is where this one takes place.

The play is a gentle comedy, with moments of pathos as two simple characters find their world enriched.

The St John’s Players production of April in Paris takes place at the Vesta Tilley Studio at Worcester’s Swan Theatre. It runs from next Wednesday (March 9) until Saturday (March 12).

Performances start at 7.45pm.

Tickets, priced at £10 with concessions, are available from Worcester Live, Huntingdon Hall, Crowngate, Worcester, or by phone on 01905 611427.
