A genuine success story

YOUNG bookworms in Warndon were rewarded for a summer of reading with medals and certificates at a presentation ceremony.

Local County Councillor Alan Amos presented the awards to the 57 children who took part in the annual Warndon Reading Challenge.

Youngsters were tasked with reading six books during the school summer holidays and Coun Amos told the Observer the ceremony was one of the highlights of his year.

“It is so refreshing to see youngsters enjoying a book rather than staring at a screen and using a keypad,” he said.

“They are improving their minds as well as learning and developing a skill which will be so very useful to them throughout their lives.

“It is fantastic that an amazing 57 children have successfully participated in this challenge.

“So, well done to them and all the parents, families, and friends who have encouraged them to undertake this task when there are so many other distractions before them,” he added.
