CITY residents are being encouraged to give an alternative Christmas present for their loved one by renting an allotment.
Worcester’s Allotment Forum made the call and revealed several plots are available at sites including Bromwich Road, Green Lane, Old Northwick Lane and Hillborough.
Peter Parry, chair of the Worcester Allotment Forum, said renting a plot was affordable with a full plot available from £59 a year or half a plot, ideal for weekend gardeners, for £29.50 a year.
“Having an allotment is a great way of getting some regular exercise, meeting people, and you’ll be enjoying all the physical and mental health benefits of being outdoors too,” he said.
“And on top, you’ll have the pleasure of growing your own fresh produce which beats anything you would buy in the supermarket.”
