THE GRAND opening of Worcester’s newest supermarket has been deemed a “huge success” after more than 130 customers queued for bargains this morning (Thursday).

Aldi’s new store, located on Tybridge Street, was officially opened by Local Team GB hockey player, Sally Walton and Aldi Store Manager, Elisha Chambers who took part in a special ribbon cutting ceremony.

To celebrate the store opening, golden envelopes containing special tickets to win prizes including a Full HD Smart TV and bags of Aldi shopping were handed out to the first one hundred people in the queue.

The star prize was won by Colin Fortey who queued from 6pm the night before.

As part of its engagement within the local community, Aldi donated a range of products to St Clement’s Primary School to aid with their summer events. Representatives from the school attended the opening and were presented with the donation.

In the coming weeks, the store will also be supporting Bounce and Rhyme, a music making group for children aged one to four years old, with a product donation to help towards their weekly activities.

The opening of the store on Tybridge Street has created 40 jobs for the local community and Aldi is currently still recruiting for a variety of roles in the area.

The store is served by over 100 car parking spaces and features around 1,500 product lines, where customers can expect a wide range of high quality and locally sourced produce.

Aldi Store Manager, Elisha Chambers, commented: “This morning’s grand opening event was a great success and I thoroughly enjoyed welcoming our new customers to the store. It was great to see so many customers enjoying our special offers and fantastic to see 100 people walking away with a prize.

“We hope the shoppers enjoyed our celebrations and I would like to thank everyone for their support. We also look forward to supporting the Bounce and Rhyme in the coming weeks.”
