Ambassadors in blitz on bullying

Worcester Editorial 28th May, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

CARING secondary school students have become ambassadors for an anti-bullying programme after overcoming it themselves.

Bishop Perowne CE College pupils Ellie Hand, 14 and Sukhraj Chahal, also 14, were bullied at their previous schools and will be using their experiences to help others to speak out.

Along with three other students, the kind-hearted youngsters organised a tree of pledges, which involved each tutor group making a pledge on how they would make a stand against bullying.

And now these have been placed on a specially designed tree that is in their reception room.

Ellie said: “We want other in the college join in as anti-bullying ambassadors. We would like to see perhaps ten in each year group. We are hoping to put on a bit of drama to try to encourage more students to come forward to help.”

The ambassadors went on a training day before taking up their new positions to learn about the effects and the consequences of bullying and how to prevent it happening in schools and how to solve it.

Sukhraj said: “I experienced verbal and physical bullying at my previous school and I know you don’t realise talking to someone will make things a lot better.

“I hope we can help students who might be experiencing problems.”
