Anniversary is a chance to celebrate

Worcester Editorial 26th Sep, 2021   0

A VINTAGE shop in Worcester’s Hopmarket is celebrating its first anniversary.

No 13 Emporium – which provides home furnishings, sewing services, upholstery, industrial lighting, recycled furniture, vintage and retro goods as well as a vintage tea room in the main retail space – opened its doors last September during one of the worst economic downturns the country has seen.

It was previously Make n Mend which originally opened its doors in The Hopmarket in July 2018; previous to this owner Caroline Wickham worked from home for 10 years.

As her reputation and workload increased she needed more space and her offering grew to include sewing services, upholstery, home furnishings, craft classes including sewing and chalk, as well as shabby chic furnishings and gifts.

“We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating our first anniversary,” she said.

“The last twelve months have been extremely hard for independent businesses such as ourselves and, without a doubt, we wouldn’t be here without the support and encouragement from The Hopmarket, Worcester residents and local organisations.”

Caroline runs regular sewing classes; her plans for the future include craft fayres for local artists and crafts people.

The premises also has two rooms for hire for events such as birthday parties and baby showers.

Bill Simpson, trustee at The Hopmarket Charitable Trust said : “It is testimony to her business acumen and drive that her and her team are now celebrating 12 months in business in The Foregate. This has been achieved during such unprecedented times.”

Worcester’s Hopmarket is home to a range of independent retailers, including hairdressers, gift shops and cafes.
