Another clean-up is under way

Worcester Editorial 7th Feb, 2021   0

COUNCIL chiefs have asked residents to take care as the clean-up following the latest floods to strike the city gets into top gear.

Continued heavy rain over the Welsh hills fed downstream and saw the River Severn expand onto the flood plain once again as the first month of 2021 ended on a watery note in the heart of the city.

Council staff began the task of reclaiming the riverside paths from the effects of mother nature last Wednesday (January 27). Further heavy rain over the weekend and into the early part of this week has raised fears of further high river levels in the days ahead.

Among the teams in action are those on Grandstand Road at the rear of the cafe, on Hylton Road’s lower footpath, near to the old pumping station on Waterworks Road, at the top end of Pitchcroft and on Bromwich Parade, from Worcester Bridge to Weir Lane.

The teams are working in full PPE to reduce the risk of Covid infection or of spreading avian flu.
