Appeal after man bitten in Foregate Street assault

Worcester Editorial 10th Feb, 2016 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A MEMBER of staff at Worcester Foregate Street station had his nose bitten during an assault by two men.

Witnesses are being sought following the attack on a member of platform staff who asked the pair to put out their cigarettes, at around 10pm on Monday (February 8).

The men became abusive and when they were told they were not allowed to travel on the next train to Birmingham New Street, one of the men assaulted the member of staff by biting his nose.

The man who bit him is described as white, in his 20s and 5ft 10ins tall. He was wearing a black beanie hat, black Superdry jacket, blue jeans and black trainers.

The second man is described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5ft 10ins tall with mid-length brown hair and a beard. He was wearing beige trousers, a green hooded top and a maroon coat.

PC Ben Smith from British Trransport Police said: “Nobody should be assaulted just for doing their job and to attack someone in this primitive way is truly disgusting behaviour.

“Thankfully, the victim only suffered a minor cut to his nose but understandably, he has been left extremely shaken by what happened.

“We know there were other people on the platform at the time, who would have been waiting for the 10.10pm service to New Street.

“I would urge anyone who was there and who witnessed the incident to contact us – you may have further details which could help us identify those involved.”

Anyone with information about the incident can call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting reference 611 of 08/02/16.

Alternatively, details can also be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
