WITNESSES are being sought after fireworks were thrown into a crowd on St Nicholas Street in the aftermath of England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy.
The incident took place at about 10pm on Sunday (July 11) and has been slammed as ‘extremely reckless’ by officers investigating the public order offence.
Sgt Pete Frankish from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “This was extremely reckless by the person responsible, with the potential for injury being high due to the amount of people in the immediate vicinity.
“As a result of fireworks being thrown two police officers were struck but luckily were uninjured.”
