Bedwardine bus boost welcomed by county highways chief

A BEDWARDINE city and county councillor has welcomed ‘fantastic’ improvements to bus services for local residents.

Coun Alan Amos, cabinet member for Highways on Worcestershire County Council, endorsed the revamp being introduced by First Worcester from Sunday, October 8.

Route 44 will now run every 15 minutes via the existing route, maintaining popular links to St Johns and Malvern.

This means two buses an hour will head down the Bromwich Road, an area which is currently not served by any buses.

In addition to the improvements down Bromwich Road, the 44 will now go direct to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

There will also now be express services – X43 and X44 – which will ensure that passengers can get to Worcester and Malvern much quicker.

Transport chiefs at First Buses worked with counterparts at County Hall on the much-needed improvements.

“From October, bus users will be able to enjoy faster and more reliable journeys and in some areas increased level of services which are the most important factors to them,” Coun Amos said.

“I am particularly pleased the number 44 has been extended to the Royal Hospital making it so much easier for staff, patients, and visitors to get there.

“The new twice hourly services along Bromwich Road will now provide public transport for hundreds more people in Bedwardine who currently do not have any bus service at all.”
