Beggers and drug dealers to be targeted in major crime crackdown

Worcester Editorial 29th Sep, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

BURGLARS, thieves, drug dealers and people causing anti-social behaviour will all be targeted by police over the next six weeks as part of a major crackdown on crime.

It comes after officers worked closely with the community and used local intelligence to identify five key areas they will focus on in the coming weeks – burglary, shoplifting, drug dealing, anti-social behaviour and begging.

To support the campaign, there will be extra patrols in towns and cities throughout the West Mercia region until mid-November.

Inspector Jessica Loxley-Clark said: “Worcestershire is generally a very safe place to live and work and we are committed to reducing all types of crime.

“However, local people are telling us that these particular types of crime and nuisance behaviour are causing them concern.

“Over the next six weeks we will have additional resources on the street to specifically focus on these areas and send out the message that the police and the people of South Worcestershire will not tolerate these types of behaviour.

“This initiative has been planned to coincide with the start of autumn and nights drawing in. This time of year traditionally sees a rise in crime, so by having extra officers on the street we aim to deter criminals and help to keep our communities safe.”
