Bio-diversity is on curriculum

YOUNGSTERS will be able to take classes in bio-diversity thanks to the donation of a field next to a county primary school.

And West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin was given a preview of the project during a visit to Grimley and Holt Primary School last week.

The school has been given some land at the back of the school and teachers are developing plans to encourage pupils to carry out biodiversity research on the plot and encourage more wildlife, insects and plants.

Mrs Baldwin agreed to support the project as it bids for funding sources to pay for mapping equipment, binoculars and monitoring equipment.

“Grimley and Holt Primary School is a superb example of how teachers are championing the issues that children care about most,” she said.

“I visited the school a couple of years ago to hear about how they are encouraging the consumption of local fruit and vegetable and this biodiversity project has clearly inspired the children too.

“Environmental issues are top of the list of questions whenever I visit primary schools and I welcome the fact that children will be able to learn first-hand about how we can all take steps to improve our local environment.”
