A CHARITY set up in memory of a much-loved University of Worcester student who was murdered while on holiday with his family will be feature on the front of Worcester Wolves basketball teams vests.

The Smile for Joel logo appeared on the front of the Wolves players vests for the first time in Friday’s win over the Cheshire Phoenix at the University of Worcester Arena.

Susie Richards, Joel’s mother was on hand to witness the shirts making their debut in support of the charity which was set up by Joel’s family in 2016.

The teenager was a Physical Education and Sports Coaching Science student at the university and was hailed as a ‘gifted student with a passion for teaching’.

Joel was just 19-years-old when his life was tragically taken during the machine gun attack in Sousse on June 26 in 2015 where his uncle, Adrian Evans, a member of Sandwell Council, and his grandfather, Patrick Evans also lost their lives along with 30 other British victims.

He has been remembered by his family and friends in a variety of ways since his tragic death including having the the Conference and Media Suite at the University of Worcester dedicated in his name.

Wolves managing director Mick Donovan, said: “Smile for Joel is a charity very close to the Wolves’ and the University’s hearts, and one which staff and students have raised thousands of pounds for.

“We thought this was a perfect way to show our on-going support for Susie and Owen and the incredible work they do.”

Smile for Joel has now become an official fund-raiser on behalf of the independent charity Victim Support. Victim Support give advice and support to bereaved family members of murder, manslaughter and terrorism victims across England and Wales.
