A CITY charity will be looking to celebrate its tenth anniversary in style when Worcester Warriors take on Rotherham Titans at Sixways.

The club has selected the Greene King IPA Championship fixture on Saturday, February 14 as its fifth annual charity matchday for Acorns Children’s Hospice on Bath Road.

A host of fund-raising activities will take place on the day as Warriors look to generate thousands of pounds for the charity, which cares for sick children and their families.

Warriors have allocated a number of tickets for the match, which kicks off at 1pm, at the exclusive Acorns rate of £25 which includes use of the Charity Lounge and a complementary meal.

A proportion of each ticket sold goes directly towards Acorns, while the Warriors players will take to the field wearing special limited-edition matchday shirts.

They have been designed by children at the hospice and these will be available to purchase from the Sixways store nearer to the date.

Laura Richards, corporate partnerships officer at Acorns, which has cared for more than 180 children and 230 families, including those are bereaved, said: “It’s fantastic that Warriors have chosen to host a fifth charity matchday, especially as this is such a significant year for Acorns for the Three Counties.

“Acorns and Warriors have developed a strong partnership over the years and it’s extremely generous of the club to share the funds raised on the day between us and their Community Foundation.”

Warriors’ star Sam Betty, who is a player-ambassador for Acorns, has urged people to support the event as the charity relies heavily on donations to fund the majority of the £8million per year it costs to provide its services.

“It’s a great opportunity to have a spectacular day out with family or friends whilst supporting a worthy cause,” he said.

“My teammates and I have seen first-hand the work that Acorns does, so it’s a pleasure to be able to help support that.”
