A ‘PAW-SOME’ competition has been launched for children to name three future West Mercia Police Dogs.
It is open up to anyone up to the age of 12 with a chance to win a visit to the dog section at the police headquarters in Hindlip, along with a photograph and a certificate.
The new dogs, bought with funds the force’s Economic Crime Unit has taken from criminals, will be trained to sniff out cash and illegal drugs.
The first two dogs come from the litter (pictured) which was born on June 20.
Mum Midge and her pups are all doing well and the first two pups will join officers in around eight weeks time.
The third dog will come from another litter, expected to be born in the coming weeks.
Entrants should send their three name suggestions to [email protected] before the August 31 closing date.
The child’s name, age and school should be included, along with the reason for choosing the names and a contact number for the child’s parent or guardian.
The winner or winners will be selected by the Dog Section and the child or children will then be invited to police headquarters to visit the dogs and receive their certificates next month.
Det Insp Emma Wright, from the Economic Crime Unit, said she was pleased confiscated cash was helping the force continue to fight crime by funding the dogs.
“The competition is a great way to show how we use the funds recovered from crime and for local children to get involved and understand the work our police dogs do to support officers.
“We hope children will get involved and come up with some creative names for our new police pups.”
Insp Lloyd Cresswell, from the Dog Training Unit, said the team was grateful for the funding and wished entrants the best of luck.
“I know that the competition winners will have a fantastic day meeting the puppies and their four-legged colleagues.”
