A WORCESTER chip shop is hoping to taste success after being shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Bull Ring Chippy, in St John’s, has been nominated as one of the top five kebab shops in the UK, outside London.

The winner will be announced at a glitzy ceremony tonight (Tuesday) at the Park Lane Sheraton in London.

Jon Randell, Bull Ring Chippy manager, said: “I’m a bit stunned but it’s fantastic, for both St John’s and for Worcester as well.

“If we got something like this it could hopefully bring more people into St John’s.”

Jon and his brother Jamie, who is a barrister in London, work in partnership for the business and the pair were nominated by the public before being judged by ‘mystery shoppers’ who shortlisted them.

They are the only shop to be nominated from the Midlands.

Jamie added: “This is a very prestigious award and we believe it recognises the hard work and efforts of the whole team at the Bull Ring Chippy and our dedicated and very loyal customers.

“It’s brilliant that Worcester can boast one of the best chippies in the country serving some of the very best kebabs.

“We know we will be up against very stiff competition from the best takeaways in the UK and we really hope we can bring home the trophy for Worcester.”
