FESTIVE lights at one of Worcester’s busiest roundabouts are shining again after city council chiefs acted quickly to repair damage caused by vandals.
The lights on the 36ft tree at the St John’s roundabout were vandalised within two days of being switched on.
Furious council chiefs branded the vandals as mindless and pathetic following the attack and vowed to restore the festive glow to the tree as soon as possible.
Working with contractor Blachere Illumination to get replacement lights put up, the council called in its own tree team and their equipment to scale the heights and install the new lights.
Councillor Geoff Williams, vice chair of Worcester City Council’s Place and Economic Development Sub-Committee, said: “I’m very pleased council officers have been able to pull out all the stops to get this repair work done so quickly.
“The vandals who carried out this attack wanted to spoil Christmas for city residents, so it’s great to see the festive lights shining out again in St John’s.”
The vandalism of the lights has been reported to West Mercia Police.
