THIS is a great time to reflect on what is really important to us all.
Everyone is dashing around at the speed of light trying to get those presents sorted out between working, arranging childcare, attending parties and possibly just sitting down for an hour to watch a favourite film.
This year has really flown by for me, and has proved to be a time of a considerable learning.
Since taking up the role of Mayor I have met a lot of good people carrying out voluntary work and without a doubt, this has been a high point of the role.
Whether they have been working for charities, as school governors or as individuals helping out a good cause, they deserve thanks and recognition for giving up their time for the benefit of others.
I’m sure Worcester would be a much poorer place without them.
And I suppose that theme of helping others goes back to our family roots.
What matters most to me is that spirit of community and how it starts with family; looking out for each other and then possibly extending that into a wider network, making sure others we know are well and able to look after themselves too.
So with that in mind, in 2018 I’m looking forward to continuing to encourage communities right across Worcester to work together, for the benefit of us all.<b>
Coun Steve Mackay
Mayor of Worcester
