A POPULAR Worcester music festival is urging fans to help it in its bid to win a prestigious award.
The Worcester Music Festival is in the running for the Best Metropolitan Festival in the UK Award after more than 250 bands and artists from across the UK performed in the eighth annual event from Friday (September 18) to Sunday (September 20).
The city centre was bursting with music from all genres and styles over the three day festival as thousands of people attended the hundreds of gigs and workshops, where outside stages provided live music entertainment for the big crowds in attendance.
Pubs, clubs, cafés, community buildings, boats, churches and record shops hosted the musical talent throughout the three days.
The free event saw national hit-maker blues band Vienna Ditto – who have performed on BBC Radio One and Glastonbury Festival – play alongside newcomers from Worcester, including blues act Ebony Clay, indie folk five-piece Chase the Deer and rock band Hipflask Virgins.
Almost 1,000 up and coming musicians from across Britain had put themselves forward to showcase their talent.
Chairman Ant Robbins, said “It was a great year for the festival with an abundance of music of all genres and even more outdoor entertainment.”
The non-profit event raised more than £35,000 through collections, raffles, wristband sales and support from the thousands of music fans who attended.
Funds were also raised for the Worcestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (WRSASC), which sets up specialist counselling for children.
