City is braced for light entertainment

Worcester Editorial 23rd Feb, 2022   0

WORCESTER’s floods have not deterred organisers of Light Night Worcester from shining a light on fun and joy in the city centre.

Running tonight (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday), Light Night Worcester’s third free incarnation will offer immersive and interactive sculptures and intriguing and playful performances between 6pm and 9.30pm.

Submergence, an immersive, walkthrough experience by Squidsoup; Luma, an 8metre long interactive robot created by Air Giants; Neon Dogs, a joyful collection of coloured dogs by Deepa Mann-Kler and a silent disco are all part of this year’s programme, as well as playful walkabout performances by Disco Heads and Glow Bros.

David Edmunds, festivals director for Severn Arts said: “I’m really excited for Light Night 2022 as it presents the work of yet more amazing high -quality artists yet again in a way that is playful and surprising, creating yet further moments of fun and joy for people to experience something new once again in the city as we firmly establish Light Night as a key event in the city’s calendar.”

Laura Worsfold, CEO of Severn Arts said: “After such a long period of uncertainty and gloom, we are excited to illuminate the city again as we move towards Spring and lighter days ahead.”

Peter Knott, area director for Arts Council England said: “We’ve seen how previous Light Night Worcester events have brought people together and the city to life and look forward to this year’s festival being more colourful than ever.

“From playful and immersive walkabout shows to interactive futuristic performances with music, the festival promises to shine a light on creativity across Worcester.”

Because of the flooding and the high river levels on the Severn, organisers have advised visitors to aim for car parks such as St Martins Gate, NCP Cathedral Square, Crowngate, Kings Street, Commandery Road and the Cornmarket.
