Council chiefs launch developer bid for Sansome Walk site

Worcester Editorial 13th Jul, 2020   0

CITY council chiefs have begun the search for a partner to breathe new life into the Sansome Walk swimming pool site.

The city’s former pool has been closed since the new multi-million pound leisure centre opened its doors in Perdiswell in 2017. The site has been blighted with problems after the discovery of asbestos in the derelict building.

But with work now safe to proceed, Worcester City Council hope to attract a developer to transform the site into housing in the heart of the city after demolition work is completed.

Work on the site is set to begin in November and council bosses have instructed property professionals Fisher German LLP to market the site.

An estimated 50 new homes and apartments are being envisaged for the site, including affordable homes.

Richard Tomlinson, partner of Fisher German LLP said: “Sites such as this located so close to the City Centre do not come to market often, therefore the site presents a fantastic opportunity to create a unique and high quality development close to the City Centre.

“As a result, we are expecting to receive a high level of interest from the market’.

A developer is expected to have been chosen by December with development of the site getting underway in 2022.
