Creative Colin’s brush with success

Worcester Editorial 1st Oct, 2020   0

A TALENTED Worcester artist has shown he can make the grade in several disciplines after he was highly commended for two poems and three paintings in a prestigious national competition.

Colin Jack, who is a member of the Droitwich Arts Network, gained acclaim in the King Lear contest for his pictures Park, Sabna in Purple Sari and Notre Dame Burning.

The competition for the over 60s had more than 4,000 entrants.

Park shows a splash pad full of children in Gheluvelt Park in Worcester on a hot summer day and Sabna in Purple Sari depicts an ex-pupil and friend from Sri Lanka who Colin has painted several times.

For his Notre Dame Burning he imagined the reflections in the River Seine which provides a kind of ‘terrible beauty’.

Of his poems ‘Not just for Christmas’ is about the death of his beloved corgi dachshund Ross and ‘Last test’ explores the fear of losing a parent as they get old, set to cricket imagery.
