A DEVELOPER has vowed to appeal the decision to throw out plans for a mixture of three bedroom bungalows and six two bedroom apartments on land next to Stanhope Care Home on Malvern Road.
Worcester City Council planning chiefs made the decision to give the thumbs down to the scheme in December, a move which has provoked independent developer Lockley Home to reveal its next move on Tuesday (January 14).
Councillors voted to reject the plans with a lack of consultation and the concern over future housing applications in the area among the reasons given for refusal.
Angry Lockley Homes bosses criticised the decision and said they had worked diligently with the city’s planning officers to revise the original scheme which was first submitted in June 2019.
“It’s a shame the councillors chose to ignore the advice of their professionally qualified planning department officers who had recommended approval of our scheme,” joint managing director Karl Lockley said.
“I had countless cups of tea chatting about hedges and other matters and ultimately the majority of neighbours appeared to support the idea of bungalows to the rear of the site and considered it a nice scheme.”
The plan for Malvern Road involves the demolition of the existing property known as Mayfield and development on that site plus the garden area.
“Given the pressure on every local authority in the UK to provide space for development does it not make sense to use first the available space within a built environment?” Mr Lockley added
“We liaise with local residents when major deliveries such as steel and framework are scheduled and are always prepared to listen to proposals to further minimise any disruption.”
“I believe residents in Malvern Road will come to recognise us as good neighbours and in time will support our proposed scheme.”
