Drama society reflects on performance

Worcester Editorial 1st Aug, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

A CITY based musical theatre group has been given £750 by a county councillor to buy portable mirrors.

Worcester Operatic Dramatic Society’s (WODS) secretary Bruce Wyatt applied to Coun Mathew Jenkins, for a grant from his Divisional Fund.

The councillor covers the St Stephen’s area which is where the society carries out their rehearsals.

Coun Jenkins granted the funds which WODS used to buy three portable mirrors to be used by both them and the Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Sections (WODYS).

They believe these new additions will assist the choreographers in dance rehearsals, encourage closer team work and coordination.

WODYS latest project is Annie which they will be performing at the Swan Theatre from Tuesday (August 4) until Saturday (August 8).

Coun Jenkins visited the teams practice at St Mary’s Hall, Northfield Street, to see the mirrors in action.

He said: “I was very happy to help and it is nice to see where the money has gone.

“This is a very local group working with children and adults and I am quite interested in drama and the arts. O was once one of Fragan’s boys in Oliver, in Croydon.”

Mr Wyatt thanked Coun Jenkins on the societies behalf, who will soon be embarking on their latest production of Sunset Boulevard which will take to the stage at the swan Theatre from October 20 until October 24.
