A CONCERT full of Eastern Promise is on offer when Opera Worcester begin their Autumn season with a concert featuring a wide range of local performers and musical favourites.

Local singing sensation Luke Swatman will be a guest singer for the ‘East of the Sun, West of the Moon’ concert which takes place at St Martin’s Church on London Road on Saturday (November 16) from 7.30pm.

Luke shot to international recognition when he appeared on the UK’s The Voice in 2018 and since then his life has been a whirlwind of singing engagements and high-profile appearances which has included Good Morning Britain, BBC Radio and Children In Need.

“It’s great to be able to work with Wilhelm Theunissen and I am delighted to be able to guest close to home at a local concert with Opera Worcester,” he said.

Wihelm is a professional tenor and until recently was Head of Voice at the Elgar School of Music. He has been a lecturer in singing, a singing teacher and Head of a Youth Opera Studio in his native South Africa.

A spokesperson for Opera Worcester said: “Wilhelm is bringing a great deal of expertise and originality to the programme we have planned for this concert, including his own arrangements and even a bit of jazz piano!

“It’s amazing how many opera tunes have found their way into other musical genres and we’ll be demonstrating this in the programme we’ve got planned for the evening, so there is something for everyone.”

East of the Sun and West of the Moon promises an evening of melodies from opera, operetta and musicals celebrating the stories of the mysterious East including numbers from the King and I, Madam Butterfly, The Mikado, Miss Saigon and South Pacific among others.
