EXCLUSIVE: Carver quits Conservatives and council in row over leadership

Worcester Editorial 24th Feb, 2022   0

NUNNERY councillor and former MEP Coun Jim Carver has resigned, the Observer understands.

Although no formal reason has yet been given, the Observer understands his departure is linked to a row with the party’s leadership at the Guildhall.

A party source told the Observer: “Jim’s resigned with immediate effect saying the leadership should reflect on how they have been running things recently.”

The former West Midlands UKIP MEP only made a return to front-line politics in May last year when he secured the long-held Labour seat for the Tories in the city council elections.

Together with fellow former UKIP member Coun Owen Cleary, Coun Carver helped deliver a share of the party’s vote to the Conservatives to allow the Tories to achieve a majority of the Guildhall.

In addition to representing Nunnery on Worcester City Council, Coun Carver sits on the authority’s Communities Committee, Licensing and Health Committee, Place and Economic Development Committee and Worcestershire Regulatory Services Board.

The Observer has contacted Coun Carver for a response
