Firms make jumbo effort to inspire fund-raising

COUNTY creative company Decanter and city centre opticians Specsavers are the latest to sign up to be part of Worcester’s next BIG thing.

Decanter along with their sister company DC Merch, which help brands deliver memorable experiences along with bespoke creative merchandise, are becoming a sponsor for Worcester’s Big Parade.

Specsavers on Pump Street has also signed up to adopt an elephant for this summer’s event.

The companies’ elephant sculptures will be among around 65 – big and small – which form a free art trail through the city’s streets and open spaces from July 12, bringing together the community for one unforgettable event.

Each large sculpture is being sponsored by a business and designed by an artist before being auctioned at the end of the trail to raise funds for the free care provided by St Richard’s Hospice.

Olly Turner, of Decanter, said: “Helping brands deliver innovative and memorable experiences is very much our thing so we couldn’t not be part of an event like Worcester’s Big Parade, which is all about creating lasting memories for local people.

“Our sister company DC Merch will also serve as official merchandise partner to Worcester’s Big Parade.

“We’ll be helping the team create some really brilliant elephant-themed products, including some pretty cool merch, along with all aspects of branding and print.”

The merchandise will be available online, and in a city centre pop-up shop, during the eight-week trail which will help raise additional funds for the hospice.

Meanwhile, Specsavers on Pump Street will be the perfect partner for the parade as elephants have relatively poor vision with a range of around just 25 feet.

Store director, Alan Richards, said: “We remember very well the buzz in the city from the giraffe trail in 2018 and our customers would come in telling us all about the sights they’d seen and their favourite colours and designs.

“We just knew we had to get on board with Worcester’s Big Parade and are delighted to be sponsoring an elephant.

“After a challenging year for everyone, we want to help bring back some colour and life to the city and ensure local people don’t miss a thing this summer!”
