Free parking for volunteer responders

Worcester Editorial 16th Apr, 2020   0

CITY council bosses will allow NHS staff, health and social care workers and NHS Volunteer Responders to park for free in the city – in line with Government guidance.

The free parking has been in place since the start of the Coronavirus lockdown, but the Government is now providing official parking passes to health workers and volunteers for them to display in their car windows.

The pass needs to be completed with the car registration number and the name of the driver’s employer and then displayed in the windscreen to gain free parking in all 14 City Council car parks, in on-street and residents’ bays, and even on single yellow lines if no other space is available.

There is no time limit on how long vehicles can be parked for, so long as their owners are on official business.

Coun Andy Stafford, vice chair of the City Council’s Environment Committee, said: “NHS workers are among the heroes of the Coronavirus outbreak, so I am delighted we are able to provide them with a little support by ensuring they don’t need to pay for parking.

“This arrangement also extends to the health and social care workers that many housebound people depend on and the thousands of approved volunteers who have stepped forward to support our NHS.”

The official parking passes are being issued directly to NHS staff, care workers and approved volunteers by NHS Trusts, local authorities and the Royal Voluntary Service.
