Fun at Fort Royal on offer this Monday

Worcester Editorial 25th Aug, 2019   0

ONE of Worcester’s most historic parks will be celebrated when The Friends of Fort Royal hosts a fun family event on Bank Holiday Monday.

Live entertainment from Orchard Band and Drumlove, with the opportunity to join in a live Zumba session too, will be among the attractions in the park from 4pm to 7pm on Monday (August 26).

Afternoon teas will be on sale, thanks to support from local company SouthCo.

Park visitors will also have the opportunity to try out Fort Royal Park’s treasure trail, which uses QR codes to link through to videos of local people’s memories.

Coun Lynn Denham, chair of the Friends of Fort Royal group, said: “Come and join us on Bank Holiday Monday for a fun and friendly community celebration. We hope you will enjoy following the treasure trail too.

“So many people love this park, and it’s fascinating listening to their memories – some historic, some personal. It gives you a real slice of Worcester ‘life’, all of which took place in Fort Royal Park.”

The videos record the memories of residents living close to the park, children from Stanley Road Primary School, the Worcester Muslim Welfare Association, local historians and the Worcester Central Mosque.

The videos of their experiences have been embedded into a smartphone activated treasure trail through the park.

Six small brass plaques each display a QR code which links to the different videos.

Hard copy leaflets with a map of the trail will also be available at the Bank Holiday event.
