Get set for the Crowle 10k run

Worcester Editorial 6th Apr, 2019   0

RUNNERS from across the county are on their marks and getting set for the popular annual Crowle Gunpowder Plot 10k and two family fun runs.

This year’s event on Sunday, May 12 will see the event staged for the 17th time and organisers say they have already been inundated with entries in advance for the 10k race.

Organisers are ready to accept large numbers of entries on the day too and hope to emulate the 670 runners of all ages and from across Worcestershire and the West Midlands took part in all the runs at last year’s event.

Money raised from this year’s event will be donated to charities to boost sporting and social facilities for local parishioners.

Event organiser Caroline Brookes said the Crowle 10k had become a date in many running clubs’ diaries, including the Black Pear Joggers, Worcester Athletic Club and Malvern Joggers.

“The event has a reputation for being a well organised, family event that has something for everyone,” she said.

“Each year we attract elite runners, club runners and fun runners from locally and much further afield and they bring their children too, who can take part in the fun runs on the village playing field and enjoy the playground.

“A barbecue (including vegetarian) will be available at the event, as well as cakes and hot and cold drinks. There will also be a bouncy castle near the playing field playground and a good crowd of spectators is again likely to add to the festive atmosphere of the event.”

The 10k, which will start at 11am, will follow the same scenic, rural route as in previous years, starting and finishing on the playing field in Crowle.

The run will once again be held under Athletic Association rules and time-tracking chips allocated to all 10k runners will record their times.

The two fun runs will take place before the 10k at 10.10am – A quarter mile for young children and their adult helpers and a more serious, timed, one-mile race for under 16s at 10.25am.

All fun run finishers will be awarded a prize and in each run a trophy for the first three boys and first three girls will be presented.

Both of the fun runs will take place on a circuit around the village playing field.

Registration will be from 9am on May 12, for on-the-day entries and for pre-entered 10k runners to collect their race numbers.
