AN HISTORIC Worcester landmark is opening its doors for residents to explore and enjoy its first ever Family Fun Day’.

Mayor of Worcester Coun Paul Denham is hosting the free event at the Guildhall this Friday (October 28) for local children, parents and carers to step back in history

An array of activities, including magic shows, face painting, a bouncy castle, games and sports will be on offer.

Visitors can also visit the famous holding cells, used when the Guildhall originally housed the courts of justice and the court room.

Vwhich was where prisoners, who had been sentenced to death, were led up through a trap door in the middle of the floor.

There will also be opportunities to be photographed with the Mayor and the Guildhall’s official sword bearer, in return for a charitable donation to one of the Mayor’s selected charities, the Youth Hostel Association’s Breaks for Kids, Action for Children and the Midlands Air Ambulance Appeal.

Coun Denham said: “I think there are a great number of people in Worcester, particularly younger residents, who have never set foot in the Guildhall.

“I wanted to throw open the doors because this magnificent building belongs to everyone. Come along to our Family Fun Day and you’ll be assured of a very warm welcome.”

The event runs from 10am to 3pm.
