Hams Way footbridge opens up

THE latest addition to the county’s walking and cycling infrastructure provided by Worcestershire County Council is now open.

The Hams Way Footbridge, which provides a much improved crossing over Hams Way, part of the A4440 Southern Link Road in Worcester, is now fully open for pedestrians and cyclists.

The bridge will eventually replace the current pedestrian crossing facility, with both being operational for a transitional period.

Coun Ken Pollock, cabinet member for Economy and Infrastructure for Worcestershire County Council, said: “It’s a great achievement that we have been able to open this bridge before Christmas. The Hams Way Footbridge is another major milestone within the wider Southern Link Road Scheme.

“Our approach is to promote all modes of transport and the walking and cycling improvements blended with the dualling of the road from the M5 to Powick Roundabout show that approach in action.’

Hams Way Footbridge forms part of the National Cycle Network Route 46 and is one of four new crossings being installed as part of the scheme to dual the A4440 Southern Link Road from the M5 to Powick Roundabout.

These crossings include Crookbarrow Way Footbridge, which has been extremely well used since opening earlier this year, Broomhall Way Footbridge which is currently under construction with the bridge span being moved into place earlier this month, and a new underpass near the Ketch Roundabout.
