Handing over the cash

A FREEMASON group has donated £500 to a Worcester charity which helps those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The Old Carolian Lodge No. 7599, which meets at the Masonic Centre at Kidderminster Cricket Club, recently presented the cheque to Deaf Direct to help deaf and hard of hearing children and adults.

Ian Neal, secretary of the lodge, said: “Deaf Direct is a great charity that benefits so many people. Freemasons devote a lot of their time to supporting local good causes and we’re pleased we’re able to support the deaf and hard of hearing communities.

“Some members of our lodge have experienced hearing loss themselves and we know how isolating this can be.”

Philip Gerrard, CEO of Deaf Direct, said: “It’s our 90th anniversary this year, so we’re pleased local organisations are supporting our work. The funds raised could help provide 50 hours of information and advice for those facing hearing loss and fund 16 hours of translation services for British Sign Language users.

“Hearing loss is invisible. We make sure the person isn’t and we’re thankful the lodge have helped to change the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people.”
