AN INSPIRATIONAL support worker from Norton who has used his love of rugby to help people overcome personal barriers has landed a top award.

Dan Hart, who works for Worcester Warriors, scooped the HITZ Champion Award at the inaugural HITZ Awards evening at Barclays HQ in London last week.

He was one of three candidates nominated of the award which is designed to recognise a a HITZ participant or member of the community who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help someone on the programme.

Among those included Nathan Collins, from Redditch, whose disruptive home life had led him into struggles with drugs and a period of homelessness.

Dan has supported Nathan by teaching him life skills which have given him a positive outlook for the future, while working tirelessly to ensure that he is safe from his previous circle of crime.

Speaking after picking up his prize, Dan said: “I’m really pleased to have received this award. The focus for me is about working with all the young people on our HITZ programme to impact their lives in a positive way.

“The teenagers on the HITZ programme have often been faced with barriers in life and our role is to help them grow as individuals and develop their skills.

“The community team at Warriors works with a lot of different people across a whole spectrum of backgrounds on a daily basis and I’ve found it really rewarding since I started.”

The evening also saw Premiership Rugby acknowledged 11 other teenagers who won Highly Commended prizes.

Anthony Martin, from Gloucester, and Aaron Stanley, from Tolladine, who are also part of the Warriors HITZ programme, were both highly commended in the Community Impact Award and Young Achiever of the Year respectively.
