A PLAY portraying women’s courage and bravery in the First World War will be performed at The Hive.

F.A.N.Y. is written by Bips Mawson and Leila Sykes from Anonymous in a Woman Theatre Company (AIAWTC) and is based on real accounts from the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry records (F.A.N.Y.) and the Imperial War Museum.

It will be shown this Saturday (May 2) at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

The writers were inspired by the novel Across the Blood Red Skies, by Robert Radcliffe and follows the women who drove ambulances from the bloody battle-fields to nearby hospitals.

Ms Sykes said: “We took inspiration from the novel ‘Across the Blood Red Skies’ by Robert Radcliffe. So little had ever been said about these courageous war women, we felt that the centenary of the First World War is the perfect time for their story to finally be told.

“We first performed the play last year in Worcester to delegates from across the globe at the Women’s History Network Conference. We are now touring the play at ten venues across the West Midlands as part of the Imperial War Museum Centenary Partnership.”

The company work to bring theatrical experience to audiences on the unheard stories of women throughout history and across the world.

Tickets cost £10 and £8 for concessions and can be bought online at www.thehiveworcester.org/whats-on or in person at The Hive.
