A LUCKY elderly woman from Worcester has revealed her surprise and delight after scooping £1,000 in a charity lottery.
83-year-old Patricia Withey, recently won the cash through St Richard’s Hospice, which provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses across the county.
Mrs Withey, who is supported by St Richard’s Day Hospice as well as a community nurse specialist who visits her home, had only started playing the hospice’s lottery for four months as a way of supporting their work.
The lucky winner has shared her good fortune with family and plans to have her conservatory decorated.
Anne Crowder is also celebrating after scooping £400 on the charity’s lottery.
There are 10,000 members who play the hospice lottery, which is a joint venture between St Richard’s Hospice, Acorns Children’s Hospice and Primrose Hospice.
Mrs Withey said: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard I ‘d won. I was thrilled to bits. Everyone at the hospice is absolutely wonderful. They’re angels.”
