WORCESTER residents are being inspired to create their own illustrations at a city museum.
The Illustration Beats Explanation project is running at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum until Saturday November, 21, where people can explore how artists use comics, storyboards, graphics and drawings to convey new ideas.
Since the exhibition was launched recently, visitors have been enjoying rarely displayed artworks from the Worcester City Museum Collection, including prints of William Hogarth’s Marriage à-la Mode as well as work by famous caricaturists and illustrators such as Punch cartoonist Sir Bernard Partridge, Ronald Searle and Ralph Steadman.
The exhibition also profiles a number of illustrators at different stages of their career, from undergraduate students to Worcester based international comic book artist Andi Watson and veteran cartoonist John Jensen.
Philippa Tinsley, senior curator at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum said: “We’re excited to see how visitors to the gallery respond to the exhibition through their own drawings.
“Illustration Beats Explanation is a fantastic exploration of illustration in all its forms, from work by living artists to work dating back to the 1700s, and I’m sure there will be something to inspire everyone to complete their own illustration story board.”
Illustration Beats Explanation is free and is open Mondays to Saturdays from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
