A POPULAR Worcester park has received a prestigious award for its outstanding reviews on a travel website.
Gheluvelt Park was awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence which celebrates attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a quality customer experience after notching up outstanding traveller reviews over the past 12-months.
The accolade follows a major £1.4 million makeover of the park in 2010 and a £250,000 investment from the City Council for new facilities in 2017.
More than 950,000 people visited the park over the last 12 months, with members of the public also voting Gheluvelt as one of the top three favourite parks in the UK for the Fields in Trust national awards in December.
Coun Jabba Riaz, cabinet member for Clean, Green and Leisure Services at Worcester City Council, said: “We know how much residents and visitors value Worcester’s parks and open spaces, and we are therefore incredibly proud to have received this accolade from TripAdvisor.
“It is testament to all the hard work our parks team puts in to ensure the park is an attractive and safe place throughout the year.
“One of this Cabinet’s priorities will be to ensure these high standards can be maintained in the long term, so that our parks will be protected for future generations to enjoy.”
The popular park includes a specially commissioned war memorial feature, new play area, refurbished bandstand and the SplashPad which is due to re-open later this month featuring jets, sprays and fountains which feed into a central stream and pools.
