Lidl plans to open new store in Worcester

Worcester Editorial 26th Mar, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

UP TO TWENTY jobs could be created in Warndon after Lidl announced it was planning to open another store in the city.

The supermarket giants want to build it on the Archdale 73’ Club site on Windermere Drive and, if planning permission is granted in the summer, it will be ready for shoppers by the middle of next year.

At least 80 car parking spaces, including both disabled and parent and child, are included.

As part of the proposals, Archdale Club’s existing building will be developed to include a new adult size football pitch, a clubhouse building with bar, lounge, skittles rooms, hall and 60 parking spaces.

The Lidl store on the Blackpole Retail Park is set to close as part of the move, with current staff having their jobs transferred over to the proposed development.

A public consultation event was held last Tuesday (March 18) at the Archdale Club, where the planning application and samples of the products went on display.

A Lidl spokeswoman said: “This new Lidl store will be larger than our existing store and will therefore enhance our customer’s shopping experience.

“The new development will also facilitate the redevelopment of the dilapidated club house, which was hailed as being of significant benefit to the local community at our public consultation.”
