A WORCESTER woman who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome has raised hundreds of pounds for charity after cycling from Weston-super-Mare to the city’s Guildhall.

Louisa Summer, who lives near Shrub Hill, made the 100-mile journey to raise more awareness of autism as she says not enough people understand the condition.

She has also raised £265 so far for the National Autistic Society.

The 47-year-old set off from Weston’s Grand Pier on Friday, July 1, stopping overnight in Bristol and then continued on her journey back to Worcester along country roads.

Only last year Louisa cycled in the opposite direction, from the Faithful City to Weston-super-Mare, and raised more than £700.

Mayor of Worcester, Coun Paul Denham, presented Louisa with a certificate in recognition of her efforts.

“Louisa has a fantastic independent spirit and real drive – her 100-mile cycle is truly inspirational and deserves public recognition,” he said.

Louisa, who has been a keen cyclist from childhood, said: “I decided to take on this challenge because I am autistic, and not many people understand what it’s like. I wanted to raise awareness of the condition.”
