Mayor finds out all about hospice

THE MAYOR and Mayoress of Worcester paid a visit to a city centre hospice to find out more about its work.

Coun Roger Knight and wife Freda visited Acorns for the Three Counties on Bath Road, to find out more about the care and support the charity provides to both children who are suffering with illnesses and their families.

Acorns is one of three charities supported by the Mayor during his civic year and during his visit Coun Knight said he was very impressed with their work.

“It was a pleasure to visit Acorns Children’s Hospice in Worcester, which I know has been providing such an important service to local people for the past ten years,” he said.

“It was particularly inspiring to see the dedication and care of the staff, and the facilities themselves which are designed to be bright and welcoming and provide a home-from-home setting for those that visit.”

Acorns chief executive David Strudley and head nurse Jayne Collins gave the Mayor the tour of the grounds alongside Alex Jordan who, with his family, received support from the hospice.

Mr Strudley added: “We were delighted to be able to show the Right Worshipful the Mayor and Mayoress the services we provide to local life-limited and life-threatened children and their families.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Coun Knight’s office in the future as we push forward our ambitious plans to provide care and support for more children and families than ever before.”

In the last 12 months Acorns has helped 180 children and more than 230 families, including those who have lost children.
