New chapter starts for schools mobile library

WORCESTERSHIRE County Council’s new and improved mobile library is making its way around the schools in the city to get more children turning pages.

Pupils at Lyppard Grange Primary School in Warndon, were the first to try out the county council’s redesigned School’s Library Service (SLS) when it visited them on Tuesday, June 30.

The old vehicle had been used by thousands of children since the service was created in 1996, and was in desperate need of updating. The new library has been decorated in graphics taken from the Tom Gates children’s books, written and illustrated by Liz Pichon. It carries more than 4,000 national curriculum and popular fiction titles to excite children’s reading.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member with responsibility for localism and communities, said: “It’s wonderful that the children at Lyppard Grange School were the first to see the new mobile and that they responded so positively to it. It’s really striking and looks fantastic.

“The Schools’ Library Service provides such a valuable resource to schools giving them access to even more exciting reading material which they can use to encourage the children to read more and enjoy reading. It’s good to have this resource presented in a way that the children find engaging.”
