New groups will support survivors of road crashes

Worcester Editorial 31st Jan, 2021   0

BEREAVED families and injured victims affected by incidents on the roads will soon benefit from support funded by the PCC.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion has backed RoadPeace in delivering two new support groups that will offer those that have been affected by road crashes the opportunity to meet others similarly affected.

The PCC said: “Too many people are killed and seriously injured on our roads, and I am committed to seeing this number reduce. Not only for the individuals affected, but also those they leave behind.

“No one should have to suffer and not receive the support they so desperately need in order to recover and carry on with their lives. I am pleased that RoadPeace will also be working with our Victim Advice Line to ensure those affected are signposted to invaluable help.”

West Mercia Police Head of Victim Services, Matt Chester, said: “We’re delighted that this funding has been secured, enabling the Victim Advice Line to expand our services by offering dedicated and specialised support to those affected by road crashes.

“We’re looking forward to working in partnership with RoadPeace to deliver this vital service to help victims and their families across West Mercia.”

Due to current restrictions, all meetings, which are to be held bi-monthly for each group on the last Wednesday of the month, will be held online using Zoom.

The first meeting for bereaved families took place on Wednesday (January 27). The first meeting for injured victims will be taking place on Wednesday, February 24, 6pm to 8pm.

Those interested in attending a meeting should contact RoadPeace at [email protected] or call the helpline on 0845 4500 355
