ASPIRING young stars of stage and screen are being invited to a free open day being staged by Footlights Worcester Stage School.

The showcase will take place on Saturday, September 14 from 10am to 1pm at Tudor Grange Academy on Bilford Road.

Youngsters will be able to learn more about TV and theatre acting, singing and dance.

VOLUNTEERS at a Kempsey animal rescue and rehoming centre will be holding a sponsored walk over hot coals this weekend.


Staff at The Holdings Rescue and Rehoming Centre will tackle the charity challenge on Saturday (September 7) from 6.30pm to help support animals in need from Worcestershire.

All funds raised will go to the rescued animals being cared for at the centre which covers Worcester, Malvern, Upton, Pershore, Droitwich, Bromsgrove and Redditch.

Live music, a bar, stalls and a shop will also be available.

A FREE family fun day will be held at St Johns sports centre on Sunday (September 8) by Freedom Leisure.

From 10am to 1pm, a range of activities will be available for families to try, including: badminton, table tennis, basketball, football, fitness classes, gym sessions, health MOT’s, martial arts and dance taster classes.

Younger visitors can also enjoy a bouncy castle, go karts and soft play.

UNIVERSITY chiefs have revealed more than 160 prospective students have signed up to a free travel scheme to help them attend an open day this weekend.

The University of Worcester will welcome many of the aspiring students to the event on Sunday (September 8) as part of a scheme with West Midlands Trains and First Bus to pilot free and reduced cost travel.

Prospective students can get one free train pass, valid on West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway trains, or up to two bus tickets with a 25 per cent reduction, valid on First Bus Worcestershire County or Network day tickets, to attend open days between now and December.
