NHS staff take on the Worcester City Run

Worcester Editorial 4th Sep, 2021   0

AROUND 100 staff from Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust will be hitting the streets this weekend when they take part in the Worcester City Run

The Trust’s team is made up of therapists, nurses and mental health professionals who will be running on behalf of the Now We’re Talking campaign which is led by the Trust and aims to highlight local mental health services and support.

Some are signed up to the 10k while others are pushing themselves a little further in the half marathon, both of which take place tomorrow (Sunday) from the Cattlemarket Car Park in the city centre.

As well as highlighting local mental health services, it is also an opportunity for NHS staff to get fit and active which also boosts their own mental health and wellbeing following the most challenging 18months in the history of the health service.

Emma Webber, Associate Director for Mental Health and Learning Disability Services at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, said: “It is been a really challenging year for NHS staff and we know that regular exercise can have such a positive impact on your mental health and overall wellbeing, so it’s great that we have so many of our staff involved in the Worcester City run.

“And as well as supporting their own wellbeing they will also be running in our bright orange Now We’re Talking t-shirts promoting local services to other runners and spectators.”

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is the main provider of mental health/learning disability services across both counties.

One of its mental health services is called Healthy Minds which operates across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. It supports people experiencing more common mental health difficulties, for example stress, anxiety, low mood and depression which can affect around 1 in 4 of us any time.

If you think you need some support you can contact the team yourself – you don’t need a referral from a GP or another healthcare professional first.
