Officers step up patrols after Warndon car fires

Worcester Editorial 3rd Mar, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

POLICE have increased patrols in Warndon following a spate of car fires at the weekend.

A total of nine vehicles were set alight in a 15 minutes spree about 11.45pm on Friday (February 28) in a number of areas including Randwick Drive, Haresfield Close, Tetbury Drive and Martindale Close.

Five of the vehicles were completely destroyed and four more suffered significant damage and police are now appealing for any witnesses.

Officers are also working with fire investigators to establish the cause of the fires and forensic officers have attended each scene to look for further evidence.

A police spokesman said: “These are worrying incidents and at the present time we cannot see any obvious reason why the vehicles have been targeted, therefore we suspect this is just an act of blatant vandalism.

“We are thankful there have been no injuries.

“Additional patrols will be taking place over the next few days to provide reassurance to local people.

“Policing teams in South Worcestershire will be out and about talking to residents in Warndon in an attempt to gather information about these fires.”

Anyone with any information about these incidents should contact West Mercia Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 444111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
