A WORCESTER school has hired a new four-legged member of staff to support and improve school experience for students.

Bishop Perowne CE College recently welcomed Golden Retriever, Orlando, to the school to join fellow retriever Boris in working with vulnerable students its Nurture Base.

The dog, which will visit the Merrimans Hill Road school every Monday and Friday, offers therapeutic benefits to children who have anxiety.

Students in the Nurture Base regularly read to the dogs to help build confidence for when they have to read in front of others.

Mark Pollard, headteacher at Bishop Perowne CE College and Orlando’s owner, said: “We’re continually looking for different ways to ensure every student can reach their full potential.

“Our Nurture Base team has seen fantastic results with Boris, so we decided to introduce Orlando. The dogs help to reduce anxiety and provide support to students who have emotional and social difficulties.

“Orlando has fitted in extremely well and loves the attention he receives.”
