Park’s great moments to feature at Fort festival

A NEW memory trail through an historic Worcester park will be launched on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Friends of Fort Royal Park and Commandery Gardens will unveil the route through Fort Royal Park during the One World in Our Park Festival which runs from 2pm to 10pm.

Food, music, dancing and arts from across the diverse cultures represented in Fort Royal Park’s local community will be on offer for free during the festival, which has been part funded by a Lottery grant.

Lynn Denham, chair of the Friends group, said: “We were successful in getting a grant from the National Lottery Celebration Fund in November 2016.

“This has enabled us to work with local digital arts company C&T to collect local people’s memories of the park.

“Many people love this park and we wanted to celebrate and share its place in city life.”

C&T talked to both young and older people about their perceptions and memories of the park. Groups from Stanley Road Primary School, Worcester Muslim Welfare Association, local historians, Worcester Central Mosque and many more have been directly involved in documenting and recording their stories.

The videos of their experiences and memories have been embedded into a smartphone activated treasure trail through the park.

Six small brass plaques each have a QR code embedded in them which link to different videos.

Max Allsup, from C&T, said: “The challenge is to find all six plaques and watch all the video stories. “Our film crew will be there at the Festival too.

“This will be an opportunity to share your own memories and stories of Fort Royal.

“The Friends are keen to extend the memory trail further in future.”
