A CHAMPION athlete has shown her support for the city council’s sporting events.

Jo Pavey, a two-time Commonwealth Games medallist, visited Worcester City Council’s play session at Gheluvelt Park on Tuesday (August 4) to promote next month’s Worcester City Run.

This event takes place on Sunday, September 20 and has been organised by Steve Cram’s company, Events of the North.

Jo will be back to take part in the Worcester 10K part of the occasion running alongside leading athletes, Anthony Whiteman, Angela Copson and Jenny Nesbitt.

She said: “I have really enjoyed meeting so many enthusiastic young people and it’s great to see that Worcester City Council is working with partners to encourage children and families to get fit and active. This kind of initiative is really important for the long term health of the nation and I was delighted to be able to share some of my experiences and advice here.”
