A MAN has died after he was hit by a car in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

The 48-year-old pedestrian was knocked down by the vehicle travelling along Cotswold Way about 1.15am.

The car then crossed into Blackpole Road and smashed into a lamppost, causing damage to vehicles in the Bromley Ford Dealership.

An ambulance and paramedic officer were called to the incident, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 34-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a man and a car that had been in a serious collision.

“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and sadly he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Police closed the road overnight while investigations were carried out and it was re-opened at 8am this morning.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact police on the non emergency number 101.
